Mujeres en Cambio Fall 2025 Newsletter
Fall is here, and we are ready to celebrate many of the most colorful festivals of the year, including Mexican Independence Day!
FALL BECAS
One of the greatest contribution a community can make for the benefit of Mexican society is to educate girls and young women. To that end, on September 17th and 18th, Mujeres en Cambio will distribute 179 becas for the Fall semester. We are excited to welcome 29 coming students just entering the program. As usual, the becas will be held at the beautiful and historic Instituto de Allende in San Miguel de Allende.
LIFE SKILLS SEMINAR
Also, on September 18th at 9am we will host our annual life skills seminar for our university students. The first speaker will be Xiomara Zetina discussing The Circle of Life. The second speaker will be Paula Anaya. Paula will present Emotional Management in the Face of Adversity. After the seminar, the Mujeres Board will conduct the Annual General Assembly Meeting. This meeting is open to the public and the board will report on the business and accomplishments of the past year.
AMISTAD CANADA NEWS
Mujeres en Cambio is please to congratulate the new President of AMISTAD CANADA, Kevin Dilamarter, as well as a new Vice-president, Nancy Bradshaw. Amistad is a valued partner of MeC, and we are delighted that Kevin and his family are relocating to San Miguel de Allende. Bienvenidos!
EVENT
Exciting news. The Mujeres board have decided to host a yearly event that will honor someone who had excelled in community service. This year, the award was bestowed on Susan Page. Susan is a community activist who is involved in both the realms of the arts and non-profits. She founded the annual Book Festival as well as co-founding 100 Women Who Care San Miguel de Allende. 100 Women Who Care is a philanthropic organization that pools individual donations in order to multiply giving. It has raised significant amounts of money for various non-profits in the San Miguel community, including Mujeres en Cambio. It was a great delight to see how many people joined us during our first Community Service Award event. All the attendees, from the moment they arrived, enjoyed Alfredo and Jim’s incredible and beautiful house, Aguamiel, the exquisite food and refreshments. Moreover, the beautiful concert by David Mendoza, accompanied by the live painting of Ricardo Ortiz. It was a very special night ending with the Community Service Award ceremony. This magical event was designed to raise funds for our girls, scholarship recipients of Mujeres en Cambio. We want to thank all the attendees and those that contribute to make this event a total success. Thank you for helping us raise a total of $117,080 MX, which after expenses amount to a total of $82,500 MX net. This means the event alone has the potential to fund 13 to 14 middle school scholarships. We greatly appreciate everyone’s contribution to this event success.
THANKSGIVING MESSAGE FROM BARBARA SALAZAR, BOARD PRESIDENT
It’s been a long year with many changes all around. For us here at Mujeres en Cambio it has been a fruitful year. We have seen the love from the community here in San Miguel de Allende, Canada and the United States towards the girls from the campos that we sponsor. It was amazingly clear at our 30th year anniversary celebration and through the donations we have received.
It’s getting closer to November, and once again we have to make time to reflect about what we are thankful for. My personal answer is, I am thankful to all of you, former donors, new donors, Amistad Canada, Universalist Unitarian fellowship, friends, volunteers… and we can’t forget the founders of Mujeres en Cambio. Year after year, all of you have shown your support to our girls who are striving to achieve a better future for themselves and for their families. All of you are dream makers, you are part of making 170 girls dreams a reality. Some of them, now, lawyers, architects, nurses, entrepreneurs, accountants, engineers, artists and so on have reached their professional goals thanks to all of you.
Today, I ask you again to continue helping us, so we can reach more communities, more girls and make a better future for all. We wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving.
